I really enjoyed learning about the various ways we collect data across various platforms. Data is not just the buzzword of the year, but something crucial to the improvement of our education system. I am conscious as an educator, and future leader, of the importance of being able to look, or assess, our data and use it to guide instruction, make improvements and come up with guiding questions. For this purpose we have to make sure that we are current in our understanding of the various facets of data.
While I was listening to all the presentations I kept hearing a lot of similarities amongst the various content presented. I think I was doing this because of what I learned while researching the CEDS, which focus on common language across data gathering platforms. The words and/or phrases that I heard a lot were: interoperability, customizable, and working together. These terms stood out because I feel that these speak to the direction that data is taking education. An education agency is no longer working alone but rather collaborating with multiple stakeholders to ensure that they are working towards implementing programs that are going to benefit all students. Data will guide these agencies, by giving them tangible information, that they can present to all parties involved, that will show the gaps and or success of their agencies. Data is the visual that all stakeholders need to make sure that they know where they are, what they need, and how they will get there. Which is exactly what Business Architecture proposes that we do.
